Alexina Mehta encountered yoga and meditation at the age of 14 through her uncle and hasn’t looked back. Interestingly, her great grandfather, R.B. Lal Singh Mehta was on a team who discovered the oldest written book ever found on earth so far, called the Diamond Sutras. The book teaches about enlightenment and compassion which have been an inspiration in her passionate pursuit to understand what creates healing and peace.
Now with 17 years of teaching experience, she joyfully brings her training in multiple disciplines within holistic health to her yoga offerings. With a degree in Human Kinetics and as an award winning Naturopathic Doctor in Canada with extensive training in energy medicine, her approach to yoga takes into consideration the totality of the human being. She is also currently studying Transpersonal Psychology and continues to study Ayurveda and Vedic Astrology. Her background in Pilates and Dance of several years brings forth a precision in her approach to yoga and a strong emphasis on core strength..in body and mind.
She has experience speaking to thousands on subjects of integrative health, natural medicine, women’s wellness and the connection between spirituality and health. She has run hundreds of events, classes, groups in topics ranging from weight loss, cleansing, stress management, chakra balancing, plant remedies, women’s empowerment and women’s health, for example. Devi Yoga is an expression of all of her work: a harmonization of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of life. The intention is to empower each to access their innate healing potential and connection to the divine and to rise up in health and happiness, in the richness of the feminine human spirit.

DESCRIBE YOUR UNIQUE VALUE ADD AS A TEACHER. WHAT ABOUT YOUR STYLE MAKES YOU STAND OUT?
I love to bring smiles to peoples faces and inspire them to have hope. I see myself as a detective for hope and light...helping people move forward in their lives on and off the mat. I am also a Naturopathic Physician which gives me a very unique perspective when I am teaching as I have seen a real range of what can happen to a very ill body and a healthy body. It gives me a sense of understanding which I feel my students really appreciate. My intention is always to promote the highest level of health, happiness, inner-peace and well-being on and off the mat for those whom I work with. I have also done a lot of work in particular with the divine feminine leading circles all over the world for over a decade to connect with their inner divine feminine. I also have a passion for working with essential oils and ayurveda which I incorporate into my yoga teachings. You can read more about me at www.dralexinamehta.com
TELL US ABOUT YOUR INTENTION IN BEING A PART OF THE LOCAL COLLECTIVE OF GATHERYOGA?
My intention is to support, mentor and love my fellow yogis! I am all about community and the collective good. I love helping people rise to what they dont even know exists yet...infinite possibility is a way of living that I seek to share with all those I come across.
WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO THE MAT?
When I was 14 years old, my uncle first told me about Yoga. So the seeds were planted and then when I was 19 I had a running injury that was not getting better with standard treatments. So I did yoga to help me, remembering the benefits that my uncle spoke about. I fell in love, and I could run again. I continued with both!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO TEACH?
Seeing the change in students from the beginning to the end of class and the journey that each one takes is inspiring to me and a reminder that where ever we are, simply begin. The journey to opening the body, mind and heart is a process that requires will, determination and effort. It is all worth it because the fruits are sweet and watching students open up to their inner light is a great gift. I am honored to witness the transformation that is possible.
Where can you find me?
I have a naturopathic practice based in Vancouver, and I teach yoga in studios, centers and at festivals and events. I am also an Ayurveda Practitioner and Energy Medicine Practitioner. Hope to meet you in person soon!
