DESCRIBE YOUR UNIQUE VALUE ADD AS A TEACHER. WHAT ABOUT YOUR STYLE MAKES YOU STAND OUT?
My style is fueled by the commitment to take yoga off the mat & into a beautiful life. Full blown namaslay style. So much so that my friends tell me I am one half buddha, one half Beyonce.
The only way to live is to hustle from the heart - so we wake up, practice our asana, meditation, pranayama, etc. so that we can go be bad asses everywhere else in life. Whether it be as a CEO, entrepreneur, homemaker. I'm a realist - I understand we cannot be on a yoga mat 24/7. So what happens when you are away from the sanctuary of your mat? Who are you then? This is the depth of the practice. Can you still be graceful in challenges that don't require spandex and a yogi toes?
My classes are about empowerment toward specific lifestyle design from the ground up. Bethany B Lifestyle (my company) helps clients design a nourishing lifestyle so they may fully thrive in their relationships, careers, and ambitions.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR INTENTION IN BEING A PART OF THE LOCAL COLLECTIVE OF GATHERYOGA?
The communities built through a shared love of this ancient practice are what is going to save the world. GatherYoga is the ultimate community. A collection of brilliant, dedicated minds collaborating and sharing wisdom. My intention is to encourage and support other teachers how I can and (selfishly) to absorb the wisdom of others in the collective.
WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO THE MAT?
Crippling anxiety. A bad trial of birth control shifted my hormones and sent me into a wild spiral of crazy. Not the, "I'm having a bad day and need ice cream" varietal. I mean absolutely crazy. I couldn't go to the grocery store, the gym, wasn't sleeping, or eating. My doctors wanted to put me on an SSRI and the last thing I wanted was another drug after the cataclysmic shift from the BC. I tried it, but it made me feel like I was driving a car at the same speed all day. I knew it wasn't how I wanted to live my life. My doctor kept pushing and eventually I threw her am enthusiastic middle finger and signed up for my first yoga class. The rest is a beautiful love affair. My approach may be different now in that situation, but my attitude still carries the tunes of, "Fuck you, Namastay." Yoga for me is about standing my ground with strength and grace. The more I stand up for myself, the less I judge other people.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO TEACH?
I have two main sources of inspiration for my teaching. The first is a deeply rooted belief that this practice makes the world a better place. The world needs more yogis. People who work rigorously towards their goals, have deep compassion for others, and do their best to be kind. The second is my students. They show up day after day, week after week, year after year, on a diligent path toward personal evolution. Together we build brilliant communities and lives.
