A teacher of ultimate freedom and embodied awakening, Laura has used the tools and practices of yoga to this end for twenty years and has been teaching others to do so for a decade. She is in integral part of immersions and teacher trainings nationally. Her original influences come from the alignment-based schools of Iyengar and Anusara yoga and she is now a pioneer in the emerging Bowspring system of postural alignment and mindful movement. She continues to explore evolving movement and inquiry paradigms to bring her students the most effective tools for transformation possible. Laura is dedicated to creating an environment in which students are invited to courageously explore their inner and outer landscape while cultivating sweet self-regard. Students in Laura’s classes benefit greatly from her encouragement to think and feel more fully, precise alignment instruction and keen observational skills, and light-hearted yet penetrating insight to help the work settle in more easefully. She also works with people locally and at a distance to craft meditation and inquiry practices and find insight and healing through the BodyTalk® System and the Akashic Records.

DESCRIBE YOUR UNIQUE VALUE ADD AS A TEACHER. WHAT ABOUT YOUR STYLE MAKES YOU STAND OUT?
I have a very keen eye for alignment and my teaching challenges students to increase their efforts toward awareness while also cultivating a deep compassion for themselves and their journey, really the journey that all of us are on. I very specifically and directly use the physical body and the practices that we do with it to tease out the much larger processes and aims of yoga. My enthusiasm, passion and ongoing studentship are evident in my teaching. I am super excited about being a pioneer in the paradigm-shifting Bowspring dynamic postural alignment and mindful movement practice. The more I practice and teach in this new system, the more I see the amazing antidote it is for many of our physical habits, and again the direct connection between what we do in our physical bodies and what we do in our mental/emotional bodies.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR INTENTION IN BEING A PART OF THE LOCAL COLLECTIVE OF GATHERYOGA?
I want to be able to share what I have to offer to students who may not be able to get to a live class with me, and I am very excited to support a local collaboration. I'm enjoying the opportunity to go beyond the walls of a studio to see what gifts others are bringing. In a world where everyone is working their butts off to try to make a living, it is fabulous to have a vehicle of community like Gather Yoga, where it really feels like we are in this together and can support each other.
WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO THE MAT?
I was invited to a class by a new acquaintance. The friendship didn't last long, but clearly the yoga stuck! At the time, I was happy for a physical outlet post-dance, but I stayed for the total transformation it facilitated.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO TEACH?
I feel very blessed to have been led to what I consider to be very effective and efficient yogic practices - asana, meditation, and inquiry practices, that have brought deep and true transformation to my life. Everyone struggles in some way relating to themselves or others, and I am inspired to share what has helped me so much. I am inspired when others are willing to dig in with me, and I highly value on-going and deepening relationships with students as we do this work together.
